GarageID is a free car document and vehicle history app for iOS and Android. You scan or import registration, insurance, invoices and receipts; the app reads them, files them on your device and builds a searchable record of the car with expenses, fuel, tires, insurance and maintenance reminders.
GarageID | CarDocs & History keeps everything about a car in one place: the documents, the service history, the running costs, and the dates you need to be reminded about. You photograph or import a document, and the app reads it, files it, and adds what it learned to the car's record.
It is built around documents first. Most car apps start with fuel and expenses and treat paperwork as an afterthought. GarageID starts with the paperwork — the registration, the insurance policy, the workshop invoice, the tire receipt — and derives the history from it.

What it does
Documents
Scan with the camera or import from Files and Photos. Text recognition pulls out the details, AI works out what kind of document it is, and it lands in the right folder with the right tags — 40 predefined tags across 7 categories. Everything is full-text searchable, so a policy number or a garage name finds the document that contains it.
More about document organizing →
Service history
Each invoice becomes a dated service history entry with the mileage, the cost, and the parts and components involved — brakes, oil, filters, battery, tires. Over time that adds up to a documented history of the car rather than a folder of PDFs. You can import a manufacturer's maintenance schedule and see what is due next, and export the whole thing as a PDF report.
Costs
Fuel, service, insurance, parking, tolls and anything else, per car, with charts for consumption, monthly spend by category and fuel price over time. Trips group the fuel and expenses of a single journey so you can see what a holiday actually cost.
Drives
Turn Drives on and every drive records itself — route, distance, time and stops — on the phone, with no account. A drive the app can't place on your car asks once, after the drive; a stop at a fuel station becomes a fill-up waiting to be logged; and years of driving add up to a lifetime map.
Insurance, tires, warranty and financing
Policies with expiry alerts and attached documents. Seasonal tire sets with tread depth, DOT dates and swap reminders — photograph a sidewall and the size, load and speed ratings are read for you. Warranties and service plans with expiry dates. Loans and leases with payment schedules and monthly reminders.
Reminders
Service intervals, inspection dates, insurance renewals and tire swaps, suggested from the car's own history rather than a generic checklist.
How the AI works
GarageID reads your papers with Google's Gemini AI, in the cloud: each document you add is sent to Gemini, which works out what it is and pulls out the details, and the result is stored on your phone. Text recognition and search run on the phone itself. Under the paid Google service the app uses, your documents are not used to train Google's AI. It is worth understanding before you decide whether the app suits you.

Frequently asked questions
What is GarageID?
GarageID is a car document and vehicle history app for iOS and Android. You scan or import your registration, insurance, service invoices and receipts; it reads them, files them, and builds a searchable history of the car — alongside expenses, fuel, tires, insurance and maintenance reminders.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Your documents are stored on your device, not on a server belonging to us.
Where are my documents stored?
On your device. You can optionally back up to your own iCloud Drive, or export a single backup file you keep yourself. There is no GarageID account holding your data.
Does GarageID send my documents anywhere?
Yes, to read them: each document you add is sent to Google's Gemini AI, which returns what it says, and the result is stored on your phone. Under the paid Google service the app uses, Google does not use your documents to train its AI. Nothing is kept on a GarageID server.
Does GarageID work offline?
Your documents, history, expenses and reminders are stored locally, so browsing and editing work without a connection. Reading a new document needs one, because it is done by Google's Gemini AI in the cloud.
Can I track more than one car?
Yes. Each car has its own documents, history, expenses, insurance, tires and reminders, and you switch between them in the app.
Can I import my history from another car app?
Yes. GarageID reads CSV exports from apps such as Fuelio, Drivvo, Spritmonitor and aCar. One AI mapping step works out what each column means, so there is no per-app import format, and the whole import can be undone with one tap.
What happens when I get a new phone?
Create a backup file containing your data, documents and photos, move it across however you like, and restore it on the new device. Restore also works between iPhone and Android.
Which languages does GarageID support?
English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Ukrainian, Dutch, Portuguese (including Brazilian Portuguese), Swedish, Finnish, Danish and Norwegian.
